Here at Elspan we pride ourselves in breeding dogs with superb temperaments which are true to type. This is why we consistently do well at competition in our Breed and within the Gundog group.
I have so much passion for this breed.
It's very hard to explain why, but I respect and admire this exquisite breed of dogs. it is this passion
that takes me to the shows every weekend to show case our breed and to do our breed proud.
Breeding is also a passion. I enjoy whelping my girls, I sit with them for every minute of their labour and as such, I'm there for every puppy when it is born. I love watching them grow, their development and the way they play and interact with each other. I could spend hours just observing their behaviour. It is through these observations that I come to know my pups well, their characters
and their growth patterns. I have usually picked out my show pups just as they begin to stand.
I have learnt what to look for in a pup and I know how my pups grow and change and who may have the potential to be the next star in the show ring.
First there was my love of dogs, then my interest in the cocker spaniel and I listened and learnt from others with the same passion. I then experienced success in the show ring and my reputation as a handler grew. Now as a breeder, I cherish every moment when a pup I have bred comes first in its class, or wins a class in group or ultimately is best in group or show. I love the breeding and the showing and I really enjoy training my new and upcoming puppies for the ring. Building a partnership with each dog is the ultimate experience, teaching them to work with you so that you can showcase them as a true and sound example of the breed remains then the ultimate reward. I don't think you could be rewarded better in any other way, than winning with a dog that you have bred and trained to this level and hearing the news of one I have bred and sent on to be
campaigned by others, this brings tears of joy.
I want to be able to make a difference with our breed not only now but in the future. I am fortunate that I am young enough to develop a plan for future breeding, planning now for new lines to enhance my existing stock. It is my plan to be breeding and showing cocker spaniels for at least
another 30 years, I also have my daughter Chelsey now 12 joining the team.
One can only dream of the successes that may be waiting for Elspan in the future, we look forward to years exciting years ahead.
